This is our son’s first year at a Cushing. He joined with great excitement for all the challenges ahead but did not expect one of those challenges to be a recovery from an ACL tear only three games into his Cushing hockey experience. This sudden disappointment not only impacted his physical state but his sense of identity. April Winter has been an extraordinary support for our son and us as parents. She has gone above and beyond ensuring our son’s physical and emotional recovery has been positive. April has taken the time to understand who our son is, what motivates him, and has moved wishes to actionable outcomes. We are indebted to April for her genuine care and commitment and wish to recognize her human kindness with this donation to Cushing.

As we grow and mature, the positive impact of one coach or teacher can profoundly shape a young person. For Teddy, Coach P is that important adult in his life. Teddy will continue to rise to be his best self both in the classroom and on the field or ice because of Coach P's high expectations and continued support. We knew that a boarding environment could be a powerful place of growth for high school students but seeing the positive transformation of Teddy in the Cushing community leaves us with deep gratitude.
